11 Things to Do While in Sonoma

Sonoma County, California is full of fun, exciting activities for visitors of all ages and interests. Check out some of our favorites below and be sure to tune in this Sunday at 8/7c for an all new episode of RIDE on the Road as Meg Drake ventures to Sonoma for Ranch Readiness Day 2017!

1. Bodega Bay

A fishing village on the Sonoma Coast, Bodega Bay is full of fun things to do, both by the beach and farther inland. You can choose to take a guided kayaking tour or a fishing cruise, but if water sports aren’t your thing, there are plenty of great restaurants and shops to check out!

2. Safari West

Take a trip through the Sonoma Serengeti! Safari West offers many options for exploring African wildlife within the California wine country, from rides alongside herds of animals, to lounging in luxury tents among giraffes.

3. Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve

Take a walk through Armstrong Redwoods and explore the tallest living thing on our planet, trees! The park allows for a variety of experiences with self-guided trails, an outdoor amphitheater, and multiple picnic facilities.

4. Jack London State Historic Park

Visit the place that famous writer Jack London called home! This state park features not only miles of walking trails through the Sonoma Valley, but there is also a museum, winery ruins, and the cottage where London wrote to explore!

5. Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center

Are you a fan of the Peanuts cartoons? Check out the Charles M. Schulz Museum, which was founded to preserve and display Schulz’s artwork. There are multiple exhibits to explore, all centered around Schulz’s work on the Peanuts, making the museum a perfect activity for all ages!

6. Sonoma TrainTown Railroad

TrainTown is described as an outdoor, rideable table top railroad, which has been constantly evolving since it’s founding in 1958. From trains to amusement rides, the town has something for everyone!

7. Annadel State Park

This park has over 40 miles of trails that are popular among hikers, bikers, and equestrians. There are great views of the surrounding valleys and parks, as well as fishing available along the trails.

8. Russian River

The Russian River runs through West Sonoma County and hosts a variety of activities throughout the year, from rafting, to boating, or just lounging on the beach. There are also many wineries around the river where visitors can sample some of the local wines!

9. Petaluma

Located along the Petaluma River, the city has a unique and historic downtown which contains antique shops, art galleries, and boutiques, making this the perfect place for shopping in Sonoma County! Visitors can also spend time exploring the Victorian district neighborhoods that surround the area.

10. Winery Bike Tours

For those interested in seeing many of the wineries in the area, a Sonoma Valley Bike Tour is one of the best ways to do it! These tours are guided by a local tour guide and allow riders to get some exercise in between winery visits!

11. Healdsburg

Healdsburg is known for all of its unique offerings, from trendy boutiques and shops to art galleries and live music at town square events. There’s always something happening in the small town of Healdsburg!
