The Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida is heading into the weekend of week 4. This means Saturday Night Lights! Saturday Night Lights is the weekly Grand Prix held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The Grand Prix attracts not only a large crowd, but also a group of well-known international riders.
This past Saturday there were 45 entries to compete in the $132,000 Adequan Grand Prix. The course, designed by Peter Grant, made for an exciting showing with only 16 clear rounds. Darragh Kenny proved to be the fastest competitor aboard his 11 year old Oldenburg gelding, Cassini Z. This was only Kenny’s second time competing with the gelding in a Grand Prix. Coming in second was Jessica Springsteen on RMF Swinny du Parc, and in third was Adrienne Sternlicht riding Cristalline. While Springsteen did not win the blue ribbon in the Grand Prix, she was honored with the Martha Jolicoeur Leading Lady Rider Award, for her consistency in week 3.
There will be more excitement to come, though, as WEF will continue through April 1st at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. And with more than $9 million to be coveted in prize money, the competition is only starting to heat up!
