60th Annual Washington International Horse Show

The 60th Annual Washington International Horse Show is finally here! Located just blocks from the Washington National Mall, this an event you don’t want to miss. WIHS started in 1958 and had become one of the nation’s most prominent horse shows. The show features over 500 competitors, from all over the world. This event being has featured many prominent political guests throughout history; including John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Gerald R. Ford.

This year’s event occurs from October 23rd to the 28th, featuring show jumping, hunter and equitation competition. A prize to pay attention to, of $130,000, is Longines FEI World Cup Jumping presented by Events DC, for the President’s Cup. Friday night, WIHS will be hosting a military night, awarding $50,000 for the International Jumper Speed Final. The event benefits the military charity of Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. Sunday morning, the top pony hunters will compete and be judged on their technique and skill. Overall, the Washington International Horse Show has exciting competitions for attendants to view.

There is entertainment for all ages! This Thursday WIHS will be hosting a Barn Night: Riding Through the Decades, featuring the splendid history of WIHS. Barn Night features opportunities for kids to participate in group contests and have a chance to win awesome prizes, including a clinic with a top equestrian. You can register your kids here! Saturday, the 27th, WIHS will also be hosting a Kids Day for the little ones to enjoy the horses at a hands-on level. The tickets will be available the day of at the arena box office!
